Recent Guests at General Israel Orphans Home

Among our many visitors recently, was Mr. Richard S. Gordon, President of the American Jewish Congress. On the occasion of his son’s bar mitzva in Jerusalem, he visited GIOH, continuing a long-term family tradition that began with his grandmother, Jennie Gordon. Mrs. Gordon was active for many years on GIOH’s behalf, and a plaque hangs on the orphanage’s walls in her honor. Ms. Rachelle Goldberg from London visited GIOH during February to bring joy to GIOH’s girls. She gave a violin recital together with her accompanist Errol Hui on the piano. Rachelle studied violin, piano and composition at the Royal College of Music and has extensive experience with quartets and orchestras in England and overseas. She teaches in the music department of several schools and in the borough council music department. Rachelle, her father and her late mother Sylvia are long-time supporters of our Home. Sylvia had once suggested that Rachelle give a concert to the girls. After Sylvia passed away last summer, Rachelle decided to make a concert at GIOH in her mother’s memory.
